REAL ESTATE & The Engagement

October 22, 2008 · Filed Under Real Estate · 2 Comments

Here we go again…. I think that every 3 months or so those REALTORS who are serious about their business need to take a day or two and look at their engagement in this wacky, Topsy, turvy business we love so much.

I am not talking about the motivational Cd’s that everyone of us have on their bookshelves or in the trunk of their cars. I am talking about looking at how we are engaged in the business. Are we returning phone calls in a timely manner? Timely means “returning the phone call the same day you receive it”. Are we following up with our clients and keeping them up to date with the progress being made or for that matter the lack of progress? Are we reviewing list prices with the sellers whose homes we have not sold or put in escrow yet? Are we being honest with them and ourselves?

I for one know how easy it is to look at the condition of this market and say “Boo Hoo everything is horrible and I am horrible and all my clients are horrible and Hagar is Horrible.” And, really this just isn’t so. How many of us have been through markets like this and survived? The market is just that…The Market.

The fact remains that sellers need to sell and buyers want to buy. We REALTORS just need to do our level best to help out.

Do yourself a favor and take about 15 minutes and take inventory of what you are currently working on and determine what files are “REAL” and which ones are simply pie in the sky. Get a grip on what you are willing to continue to work on and then call everyone and have that most cherished conversation of conversations. Tell them the truth and after the dust settles you can happily work with your new found realistic clients.

You will be very pleased and relieved with your new enthusiastic engagement in your Real Estate business.

Your friends and family won’t recognize this new positive happy person.

So go ahead and get engaged.

Don’t Worry Be Happy….. Economic Recovery?

October 8, 2008 · Filed Under Real Estate · 1 Comment

So, everyday we receive our paper and what do we see as front page news? No not the story of the guy who went swimming in the moat at the Imperial Palace in Tokyo or the story of  “Baby” Max the 2 ton adolescent rhino and those are some pretty great stories.

What we get to see every morning are Headlines like Economy races down track to ruin“. It’s a wonder that people haven’t started jumping from their office buildings or bridges. I would jump but I’m on the first floor and gee won’t that look a bit funny?

I understand we need to report the news, I really do. I stopped watching the sensationalized news shows like ABC,NBC,CBS,FOX,MSNBC years ago, I guess I quit watching the news and somehow I miraculously know what is going on in the country. I just got really tired of all the negativity and I understand “It Sells”. I just don’t have to buy “IT”.

My head isn’t buried in the sand and at the same time I am a happier man not listening to all this negative poo poo about the economy and the debates and the race to become the next President. Speaking of the race for President…. Do the candidates not understand that we want to hear their views and solutions on the issues not the tertiary B.S. about the candidates past.

I think all these stories should have the negative side reported and I for one believe there is a positive side to everything and that it would be wonderful to hear or read that story right next to the doom and gloom.

Come on people can’t we just all get along? So, don’t taze me bro and have a wonderful day.
